ITW (In The Weeds) Hot Rods
In The Weeds, or ITW Hot Rods is the creation of Rat Rod enthusiast, Chris Walker of Stacy, MN (located just north of the Minnesota Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul).
Rat Rods are kind of a counter-reaction to the high-priced "customs" and typical hot rods, many of which were often polished and seldom driven. The rat rod's inception signified a throwback to the hot rods of the earlier days of hot-rod culture, built according to the owner's capabilities and with the intent of actually being driven. A rat rod is a style of hot rod or custom car that, in most cases, imitates (or exaggerates) the early hot rods of the 1940s, 1950s, and early-1960s.
When participating in car shows, people are invited to touch them and even crawl through them, as these mechanical creations are meant to be used. Scratches and dings? Not a problem. Chris jokes that if one of his cars gets hail damage (and that would take a pretty good sized stone to dent one of these cars), he'll circle the ding and write down the year over the damage!
Award winning Rat Rodder, Chris Walker has turned this hobby into an art, traveling across the country, showing off his truly remarkable creations. And, yes, he actually drives them.
Chris is available to do consulting, creative design, &/or build a rat rod for a fee.
